//Maccabiah Games at OJCS – Friday, June 10th

The OJCS Maccabiah Games will take place on Friday, June 10th! It will be our first in-person Maccabiah games in over two years. We are asking each family to raise $100. There will be rewards for the class who raise the most money! Here is the link to donate!

Shavuot Kosher Food Drive
OJCS is collecting food for the Kosher Food Bank. There is a need for canned tuna or salmon, toilet paper, ketchup, mustard, boxes of tissues, paper towels, tomato paste, chickpeas, and brown rice. Any food items your child can bring in would be most appreciated.

//Yom Hazikaron
On Yom Hazikaron, the Grade Three classes attended a solemn and meaningful Yom Hazikaron assembly. The students focused on Peace as a way to honour all the brave soldiers who lost their lives in Israel.
We read the poem I Dream a World by Langston Hughes, wrote similes for peace, and worked on our songs of Peace.
I Dream A World
I dream a world where man
No other man will scorn,
Where love will bless the earth
And peace its paths adorn
I dream a world where all
Will know sweet freedom’s way,
Where greed no longer saps the soul
Nor avarice blights our day.
A world I dream where black or white,
Whatever race you be,
Will share the bounties of the earth
And every man is free,
Where wretchedness will hang its head
And joy, like a pearl,
Attends the needs of all mankind-
Of such I dream, my world!

3A Similes for Peace

Yom Ha’atzmaut
We started the day off with a door decorating challenge. The students had so much fun decorating!
Our students rotated through six AMAZING stations taking them “around Israel” for Pita making, an IDF code breaking station, bracelet making, Karaoke, trivia, and making chocolate balls. Karaoke was so popular that we went for another round in the afternoon. The Pokemon theme song was a big hit with Grade 3.
We played a special Yom Ha’atzmaut Kahoot game created by two students. It was so much fun testing our knowledge of Israel.
We finished off the day with cupcakes. A perfect way to end the day.
Generations Day
The students had so much fun with their grandparents on Generations Day. They spent time talking and enjoying each other’s company. Discussion topics ranged from mitzvahs, nicknames, and places to visit in Israel. It was a special day!

Maps of Israel
//The Grade Three classes have been taking a good look at the map of Israel. This past week they worked on making their own maps. Take a look below of some of the beautiful maps the students have created so far. These maps are setting the stage for Yom Ha’atzmaut later this week, and a special project coming up in Jewish Studies.
Model Seder 2022
//Our Model Seder took place on Tuesday afternoon in the Makerspace. The students dressed up and were excited to celebrate together. 3B performed a Passover play called Let My People Go while students in 3A became different characters in the Passover story. All the students took turns reading from the Haggadah throughout the Seder. Everyone sang beautifully and enjoyed the special Seder meal. All of the students did a wonderful job in helping to make our Model Seder very memorable. It was the perfect way to usher in our Passover break.
