Week 1 Wrap Up from 3B!

Hello 3B Families,

We can’t believe that the first week of school has already flown by!

We have spent the week getting to know the students, set classroom routines, and of course… WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF FUN!

A highlight from Morah Sigal’s class is the שאלות (questions). Morah Sigal asks the students questions in Hebrew and they respond in Hebrew! These questions can be about ANYTHING!!! Sometimes, Morah Lianna will practice her Hebrew and answer the שאלות, too!

In Art with Morah Andy (Dance, Drama, Visual Art), we learned a dance to the song Tel Aviv! Morah Sigal let us practice our dance one afternoon!

In General Studies, we used a variety of books to help us create our classroom rules (or as Morah Lianna likes to say, our leadership skills). We read Are Pirates Polite? We Don’t Eat Our Classmates, and I Promise.

After reading the book I Promise, we also each took the time to make one promise to ourselves for the school year!

You can see all of the promises we made when you visit our classroom on Back to School Night!
(note: homework will begin after Back to School Night)

Reminder; if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please never hesitate to reach out to the Grade 3 team!

Shabbat Shalom!

גַּן הַחַיּוֹת שֶׁל כִּתָּה ג

As we were transitioning out of General Studies earlier this week, Morah Lianna said “We need to clean up this classroom before Morah Sigal starts teaching… It looks like a ZOO in here!”

… and Morah Sigal got inspired! Let’s make a zoo!

First, we had to pick an animal. Then, we searched for facts about the animal. Some examples included; What do gorillas eat? How many types of monkeys are there? What climate do snow leopards live in? What do red wolves eat? Where do pigs live?

After gathering our information, we made these posters!

We had a lot of fun!!

Chanukah Rehearsal Time!

Hi Grade 3 Students!

Please practice the lyrics for the SONG we are SINGING at the Family Chanukah Celebration!
Here is the video with the song and I have the lyrics that you should practice typed out below.

Chorus 1:
Tonight is Hanukkah
Got everything we need
A frying pan, some oil
And a latke recipe
Let’s celebrate our ancestry
We’ve got ooh, ooh, ooh The latke recipe

Chorus 2:
Tonight is Hanukkah
Got everything we need
A frying pan, some oil
For your latke recipe
Let’s celebrate our victory
We’ve got ooh, ooh, ooh The latke recipe

Chorus 3:
Tonight is Hanukkah
Got everything we need
A frying pan, some oil
For your latke recipe
Let’s celebrate our ancestry
We’ve got ooh, ooh, ooh The latke recipe

Slow Part:
Two thousand years
Of joyous celebration
A single jar
That burned for eight days
The food we eat
As part of our tradition
Keeps that flame alive!

Chorus 4:
Tonight is Hanukkah
Got everything we need
Good friends and family here to try
Our latke recipe
Best served with applesauce, you see
We’ve got ooh, ooh, ooh The latke recipe

Learning About Each Other in Hebrew

Next week grade 3 will begin a new unit. Students will practice the skill of speaking in the first person and will work on a project in which they will have to write a short biography about themselves (following the guided questions in the slides below). Each student will work on answering questions about where they live, and describe their families, and will then document their learning by interviewing each other and sharing their recordings with their classmates to learn about each other and what makes each one of us unique!

Stay tuned for part 2!

Kitah Gimmel Update

                                       Yom Hazikaron

On Yom Hazikaron, the Grade Three classes attended a solemn and meaningful Yom Hazikaron assembly. The students focused on Peace as a way to honour all the brave soldiers who lost their lives in Israel.

We read the poem I Dream a World by Langston Hughes, wrote similes for peace, and worked on our songs of Peace.

I Dream A World

I dream a world where man
No other man will scorn,
Where love will bless the earth
And peace its paths adorn
I dream a world where all
Will know sweet freedom’s way,
Where greed no longer saps the soul
Nor avarice blights our day.
A world I dream where black or white,
Whatever race you be,
Will share the bounties of the earth
And every man is free,
Where wretchedness will hang its head
And joy, like a pearl,
Attends the needs of all mankind-
Of such I dream, my world!

A song for Peace

We are a family, deeply connected, even with COVID, we stand together.

The earth is our home land, we all live on our world, always connected, always affected.

חסד הוא מה שאנו, חושבים עליו כשלום, לכל אחד יכול להיות דעה

La gentillesse est ce que nous, considérons comme la paix, tout le monde peut, avoir une opinion.

              Yom Ha’atzmaut

We started the day off with a door decorating challenge. The students had so much fun decorating!

Our students  rotated through six AMAZING stations taking them “around Israel” for Pita making, an IDF code breaking station, bracelet making, Karaoke, trivia, and making chocolate balls. Karaoke was so popular that we went for another round in the afternoon. The Pokemon theme song was a big hit with Grade 3.

We played a special Yom Ha’atzmaut Kahoot game created by two students. It was so much fun testing our knowledge of Israel.

We finished off the day with cupcakes. A perfect way to end the day.

                                   Generations Day

The students had so much fun with their grandparents on Generations Day. They spent time talking and enjoying each other’s company. Discussion topics ranged from mitzvahs, nicknames, and places to visit in Israel. It was a special day!
