General Studies Homework Due March 11th 2020

Good Morning Grade 3,

All students will receive a multiplication strategy booklet this week to practise Arrays, Colour-block square tables, skip counting and number lines. These are all useful strategies when practising multiplication. As we are starting out multiplication and Division unit in Math (which will last until the end of March) this booklet will help when you get stuck.

You can also use an interactive tool such as YouTube and listen to multiplication raps and I will set multiplication tasks on Knowledgehook.

Thanks,

Miss M

Exciting News for Grade 3!

Good morning Grade 3 and Grade 3 parents,

Today a letter and permission form will be coming home regarding the soft launch of grade 3 student blogfolios!

The ultimate goal is to help students learn communication, reflection, and digital citizenship skills, including online safety, that will help them throughout their lives. Here are some examples of the different types of blogfolios from one of the older grades in our school.

Public Blogfolio  – This student has been blogging since Kindergarten. It’s wonderful to see how her learning has grown and developed over time.

Public Avatar Blogfolio – This student has just begun her blogging journey and has chosen to keep her name and identity private. We are still able to see her growth and interact with her on her journey. Notice how students have learned to respect her privacy by using the alias in the comments as well.

Password Protected Blogfolio – This student has shared her name and is open to leaving some posts public, however when she shares pictures or videos, she has password protected the post. Only those who have been approved by her or her parents are allowed to know the password.

Private Blogfolio – This blog is completely private. Unless you have an Edublogs account and have been granted access to this blog, you will not be able to see the content.

If you could sign and return the permission form by Monday, March 9th, 2020, I will add an electronic copy here.

We are so excited to finally begin to build a spot for all of our awesome work! If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to email.

The Grade 3 team.

Innovation Day Invitation – March 5th 2020

Good Morning Grade 3 parents,

I am formally inviting you to our Grade 3 Innovation Day presentations on Thursday, March 5th, 2020 from 8:45am-9:45am in the Grade 3 room.

Just to expand on my blog post introducing the concept of Innovation Day, in Grade 3 we have been looking into Structures: strong and stable. We began our exploration looking in what makes a structure strong and stable. Students researched a famous landmark, looking into the real structure (this is a part of our social studies work) using our math measurement and geometry skills to look at shape, height, weight, the scale of their structure and ensure it is free-standing. The structure must also be able to hold weights ranging from 100g-500g. All language arts skills will be assessed from oral communication to scientific report writing (hypothesis, procedure writing, concluding) to reading through research.

As elementary engineers, this is the first independent step into researching, planning, and building. I am so proud of how the Grade 3 students have fully immersed themselves in problem-solving, communicating and collaboration.  The Grade 3 students will present their structures alongside their scientific method info board and show you their experience with experimenting via QR code.  All structures have been made from recycled goods or goods which will be recycled.

I hope to see you at our Innovation Morning and for you to see all of the wonderful learning experiences happening in Grade 3.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask,

Miss M

Blogger of the Week – Ben!

Welcome to the grade 3 blog! We have been doing lots of cool of things in school lately so I’ve put them on our blog.

In Hebrew, we are learning about our friends and it’s fun it was like guess who!

My Hebrew Word of the week is:  טו בשבט.  This means the new year/birthday of the trees.

It’s gym time for basketball 🏀 and soccer ⚽️!? It’s so fun.

It’s time for our Rosh Chodesh Shevat assembly, Monday, we are learning about the environment in Isreal and how our Green Team in school is helping the environment.

Here we are at novel study time. We are reading the BFG. We laughed about Whizzpopping today!

Here we are with the Shinshinshim. We had an Israeli avatar theme. We used Virtual reality.

Thank you for reading our grade 3 blog. I hope you enjoy the next blogger of the week…we will find out soon!

The SHUK is here…and we will be there tomorrow!

We are excited to share that the Grade Six Hebrew 2 class will be holding a shuk (market) this week!

The Grade 6 class just completed a course of study about Jerusalem and its very famous market area, Shuk Machane Yehuda. Many items will be sold, such as video games, toys, books, and snacks. Like in every shuk in Israel, “bargaining” is always encouraged and welcomed. Items sold will cost anywhere from 5 cents to a maximum of 5 dollars. We would love to see your child bargaining at our shuk and see how 5 dollars can take them a long way.

If you have not sent in money, please remember to send it tomorrow!

Thanks,

Miss M and Morah Sigal
