Blogging Challenge Week 2

Week 2 of the Blogging Challenge came with the focus of commenting. As a class, we discussed what a comment is, why is commenting important (or is it not important?), what comment can give (to the author of the blog), what is it’s purpose?

We also looked into the negative aspects of commenting and opened up a conversation around ‘trolling’. This part of the commenting learning curve will be re-visited through our digital footprint workshop with Miss Brigitte.

Here are the Grade 3’s in action, creating their first written comments on the class paper blogs. The next step for the class will be to review the comments as we open up the next part of the conversation around quality comments and the creation of our class commenting rules:

  1. Hello –

Thanks for sharing the pictures, it’s nice that the students got to practice on paper together first as they learn about online commenting.

Do your students think that everyone online knows how to do comments well? If they were to teach other teachers in the school about commenting, what would be their top 2 things to share?

Hmmmm, now I’m thinking… what if they created a simple infographic or visual with some basic commenting tips and shared that on the class blog and maybe in the teacher’s room? Having a reminder of the “anatomy of a good comment” would be great!

Sounds like you are all off to a good start – have fun blogging!

  2. Dear Grade 3,
Great learning! Can you share some more information about “trolling”? We saw your paper blogs in the hallway and we thought they were very cute and interesting. Thank you for sharing your pictures.

    1. Thank you for the comment 2A.

People who ‘troll’ are cyberbullies. This means that they are bullies online and try to make people feel bad. If you think someone is ‘trolling’ you, you can report them and delete the comment.

      From Grade 3 🙂

  3. The conversation bout trolling clearly made an impact because it carrier all the way through to our shabbat table. During dinner we taught Bubby about trolling as opposed to trolls! Thank you for creating such a meaningful and engaging lesson for the class!

  4. Thank you for the comment!

We remember discussing the ideas about trolling and we are glad they were discussed at home.

    From the Grade 3 🙂
